Obesity can lead to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart attack. Yes it can happen to you too. The first and the hardest step is admitting you have a problem. If you have done that, then try to figure out why are you overweight. The most common reason is that people are lonely or have had problems with others teasing them because they are fat. If they had problems with weight before then situations like that can make them even more depressed.

The mistake that so many people make is that they start starving their body. They think that eating practically nothing is the solution. To get rid of fat you have to consume fewer calories than you burn. It is always better to burn more calories with exercise than to cut calories. People are so desperate to get the pounds off as fast as possible so their calorie deficit is too aggressive or too extreme. When you cut your calories too far, eventually your body adapts.

Many popular diet books and so called gurus tell that "calories don´t count, eat as much as you want." Although you don't have to count every single calorie, you definitely have to know how much calories you consume in a day. If you don't know that, then it is impossible to be successful, because you need a caloric deficit to lose weight. If you count calories in the beginning, then it is easier to calculate how many calories are in certain foods, without counting every single calorie.

What to do

To lose weight you have to change your diet and start exercising. Take out all the stuff you don't need from your menu. Eat to live, don't live to eat. Try to cook healthy food for yourself, eat salads and vegetables. If you replace junk foods with healthy foods then eating healthy will become second nature without even thinking about it. The next time you want to eat chips when you watch TV, replace it with a carrot for example.

Try exercise as much as you can as often as you can. Walk instead of driving a car, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Simple things like that can have a big effect at the end of the day. Going to a gym a working out is also very important. Often people hit a plateau and they stop losing weight, so going to the gym and doing cardio and weight exercises is essential.

Remember the are no short-cuts in weight loss. To be successful and reach your ideal weight you have to change your whole lifestyle. There are no magic pills. And to lose fat you have to burn more calories than you eat. Weight loss is not fat loss.
